Steven A. Gibson, Managing Partner

Mr. Gibson is one of the leading business and intellectual property attorneys practicing in Las Vegas. Not only is Mr. Gibson one of the most experienced attorneys in Nevada practicing in intellectual property and business areas, Mr. Gibson’s practice in Tokyo with one of the nation’s largest law firms, as well as in Chicago with a major, international Chicago-based law firm, has given him a level of experience few attorneys in Las Vegas can claim. With 20 years as an attorney, including 10 years of Nevada practice, Mr. Gibson has some of Nevada’s largest companies as clients, including large media companies, gaming and casino companies, and software and development companies, as well as client companies in an array of industries across the United States and worldwide.

Mr. Gibson focuses his practice in the areas of intellectual property and representation of business clients with respect to contracts, entity formation and commercial litigation. With respect to intellectual property, Mr. Gibson has counseled clients with respect to thousands of trademarks and service marks, prosecuted hundreds of trademarks to registration, and engaged in numerous trademark litigation cases. Mr. Gibson has also drafted hundreds of contracts involving intellectual property assets, protecting the full range of such assets, such as patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, and other intangible assets. Mr. Gibson has been the primary attorney in a range of cases involving disputes regarding patent infringement, trademark infringement, copyright infringement, trade secret infringement, and the misappropriation of other intangible assets.

Mr. Gibson received his J.D. cum laude from the Chicago-Kent College of Law and his B.A. cum laude (with special honors) from the University of Louisville, where he was a nationally-honored member of the debate team. Mr. Gibson also studied in Osaka, Japan for one year at Kansai Gaidai University of Foreign Studies focusing on Japanese language, economics, and management, and speaks conversational Japanese. Mr. Gibson has published frequently through the years on the subject of intellectual property and regularly speaks at seminars focused on intellectual property.

J.D. Lowry, Partner

Jodi Donetta “J.D.” Lowry practices in the areas of intellectual property, commercial litigation, and health law. The focus of her practice is copyright and trademark law, and she has a strong interest in intellectual property torts related to blogs, social networking websites, and other new media. She has presented seminars and published in the fields of copyright law, plaintiff litigation in federal courts, and medical malpractice. Before entering law practice in 1999, Miss Lowry was the assistant editor of the Journal of College Science Teaching and the copyright officer of the National Science Teachers Association.

Miss Lowry received her J.D. in 1994 from the Washington & Lee University School of Law, where she received an academic award in Close Business Arrangements. She received her B.A. magna cum laude in 1991 from Hollins College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Miss Lowry is a member of American Mensa and of the Howard D. McKibben Chapter of the American Inns of Court.

J. Scott Burris, Partner

J. Scott Burris has substantial experience in real estate finance and business law. Mr. Burris owned a business for eight years before completing his undergraduate degrees in economics and finance, graduating suma cum laude from Southern Utah University. Mr. Burris then attended the University of Utah College of Law, where he interned for Judge William W. Barrett; earned academic awards in Securities Regulation, Business Associations, and Land Use Controls; served as a managing editor and contributing writer; and worked for the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.

Mr. Burris practiced for several years as a business and real estate litigator in Salt Lake City before his admission to practice in Nevada in 2007. Additionally, during 2006 and 2007, Mr. Burris was a professor of evidence law, micro-economics, and the history of the U.S. economy for the Salt Lake Community College. Mr. Burris represented numerous clients in municipal, state, and federal courts, as well as before city and county planning commissions and city council. In Nevada, Mr. Burris has primarily practiced civil litigation, where he played a key role on the defense side of the largest mass-tort case in Nevada history before joining the Firm as a partner.

James P. Jensen, Associate

James P. Jensen was admitted to practice law in Nevada in 2001, and has extensive commercial litigation experience in federal and state courts, particularly in contract disputes, real estate matters, and professional liability.

Mr. Jensen is substantially experienced in providing legal services in complex business matters, including real estate development and financing, the negotiation, drafting and closing of numerous commercial transactions, acquisitions, and the formation of various corporate entities.

Mr. Jensen received his J.D. from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he participated in the renowned intensive Trial Advocacy program, achieved multiple honors on the Dean’s List, and obtained a coveted position clerking for Professor Lissa L. Broome, Director of the Center for Banking and Finance. In 1998, Mr. Jensen received his B.A. magna cum laude in English Literature from Southern Utah University while working full-time as an engineering planner for an aerospace subcontractor.
